Falls Branch
The
North Georgia Waterfalls at Falls Branch are
actually two, twin falls, both of which are
visible and easy to access via the Benton Makaye
Trail. To get to the North Georgia Waterfalls at
Falls Branch, take Highway 60W to Newport Gap
Road, approximately 11 miles from Ellijay and
turn left. This road is also known as Dial Road
as it passes through the small town of Dial
Georgia. Cross over the Toccoa River Bridge near
Dial Georgia and turn right onto Aska Road.
Follow Aska Road for five miles and take a left
onto Stanley Creek Road. You will follow Stanley
Creek Road for 3.1 miles and come to the place
where the Benton Makaye Trail turns into the
woods. This area is well marked with a double
diamond to signal where the trail begins. Follow
the maintained trail up the creek and you will
come to the viewing platform for the falls.
Barnes Creek Falls
Barns Creek Falls is a small, fifteen foot
waterfall that is particularly beautiful after a
long period of rain. Located in the Cohutta
Wilderness Area, this Waterfall in North Georgia
is located about 5 miles outside of Ellijay GA.
To access the falls take Highway 52 out of
Ellijay and turn right on Gates Chapel Road.
Follow Gates Chapel Road to FS 90 which heads
towards Conasauga Lake. Turn right onto FS 68
and you’ll come to the Barnes Creek picnic area,
and the falls will be on the right. Near the
picnic area is a great observation deck that
sits atop the falls; this is the best spot to
take pictures.
Julie
Anna Falls
Julie Anna Falls is a 50 foot Waterfall in North
Georgia, and it is one of the most scenic places
in the Rich Mountain Wilderness Area. To visit
the falls you should take Turniptown Road, which
is located right off Highway 52E. Travel on
Turniptown Road for 3.7 miles and you will reach
the Walnut Mountain community and development.
Continue on Turniptown Road for another 2.4
miles and the road will end at a gate. You can
park you vehicle to the right and reach the
trail to the falls. The two mile trail is a bit
steep and gains about 900 feet of elevation from
its base to the view of the falls. The trail
takes you over Turniptown Creek, which you
usually have to wade and continues on an old
logging road on the left side of the creek.
Taking you through a remote wilderness area, the
trail crosses a ridge bringing this Waterfall in
North Georgia into view on the right.
Amicalola Falls
Perhaps the most beautiful and most widely known
North Georgia Waterfall is Amicalola Falls.
Amicalola Falls is one of the largest sets of
waterfalls east of the Mississippi River, and
they are located just 20 miles south of Ellijay
GA. Known for being the highest waterfall in
Georgia, Amicalola Falls plunge 729 feet into
the rapid flowing waters below. What seems to be
one continuous waterfall is actually seven
smaller, cascading falls, which combine to
create, one large body of flowing water. Both
the top and bottom of Amicalola Falls can be
reached by a car ride or short hike. The upper
falls has a nice parking lot area and a great
observation area that runs directly over the top
of the falls. The bottom part of the falls also
has a paved lot and a small trail that leads to
the bottom pool.
All of these gorgeous Waterfalls in North
Georgia are located in an unspoiled region of
